MY-KYOTO is simply a website set up to inspire people to make changes in their lifestyle that will help to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

Its not political and it won't make you feel bad for having the heating on or for driving a Rolls Royce ! Its simply a resource for those people who, like me , feel that we should each do something to contribute to a reduction in amount of energy that we use.

How did MY-KYOTO Get Started ?

It all started when I was looking to change my car. I had my heart set on a certain sports car but also felt that maybe I should be getting something more environmentally friendly. I went for a test drive in the sports car and found it to be too bumpy and too noisy... maybe I'm just getting too old for that kind of thing. So, with complete disregard for what my neigbours might think, I opted for the environment and bought a small 1.2 litre hatchback.

I was truely amazed how much less fuel this used. We have been saving £120 a month on fuel alone. In addition to this, the car we chose has proven to be fast, comfortable and fun, even on long trips.

Then I thought... "If I can inspire someone else to make a similar lifestyle change... then I will have doubled by contribution to reducing emissions. Hence this website.... all I need is to hear that one other person has been inspired to make a change... then it will be a success !

On A More Serious Note...

The KYOTO Agreement makes good press for politicians and industry and is no doubt a step in the right direction. But whilst we still buy big cars, four wheel drives etc.. petrol companies will keep us in fuel and climate change will remain a concern. The only people who can really make a difference is us.

How can we features cars and have a car company sponsor a site that claims to want to reduce CO2 emissions ?

From our point of view...cars are the biggest cause of CO2 emissions. Asking people not to drive is not a realistic option. Asking them to think smaller when buying the next one... is our best plan to date and our focus for 2005 !
