Holidays are a really important part of modern life, helping us to relax and become restored. Being able to travelling anywhere in the world is without doubt one of the most exciting aspects of the technology we now have at our disposal.

However, with the increased number of cars on the road and the increasing number of holiday makers flying abroad - our current trend in holidays is causing massive CO2 emissions. No.1 A Train Ride to The Dordogne

  If you are looking for an adventure that involves travel - then a train ride to the heart of France's Dordogne region is a good option.

Trains are considered to cause less damage to the environement than cars and planes and once you are there, you have the options to walk, cycle or canoe through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.

Americans, Japanese, Scandnavians, in fact the whole world travels to the UK, intrigued by the architecture and long history that makes the UK special.

Cities such York, Norwich or Edinburgh can make a wonderful family break.


Each of these cities have fine museums, cathederals, cobbled streets and guided tours. The Norwich Museam being located in a magnificent Norman Castle in the centre of the city. York has several museums including a fantastic Railway Museum and Edinburgh has its famous castle museum.
And when the family have absorbed enough history, there are vibrant shopping centres and some really nice places to eat.

No.6 Pony Trekking in the Yorkshire Dales

If you really want a "get away from it all " holiday - then it doesn't get much better than this !

The Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District offer some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe and exploring this area on the back of a pony is as close as you'll get to going back to basics.


Whether you're new to horse riding or an expert, there are stables that will cater for you and your family. There are companies such as "Unicorn Trails", that can offer you an itinerary of exhilerating treks through the unspoilt Dales along with Bed and Breakfast and evening meals.... and if Dad wants to wear a cowboy hat and a sheriff's badge - then that's OK with us.

The Coast to Coast walk across Northern England was first devised in 1972 by Alfred Wainwright, since then the route has become one of Britains most inspiring long distance walks. In 2004 the route was voted the second best long distance trail in the world by Country Walking Magazine and The Independent Newspaper.


The 190 mile route crosses Northern England from West to East. From the seaside town of St. Bees in Cumbria you will walk through stunning scenery, crossing the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, before arriving in the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay on the Yorkshire Coast. "North West Walks" can offer a Coast to Coast holiday that includes 14 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, 13 days walking with a guide, and luggage transfer between overnight accommodation.... go on... live a little..

The InterRail-Ticket is the regular train ticket of the European Railways. You can travel through Europe for a month with this ticket. From the north of Norway to Morocco, to Greece and back.... and its not just for students.

You can buy tickets for certain zones in Europe but a ticket to cover the whole of Europe starts at Euro 399...(£275 approx), not bad for one months unlimited travel. "Interail" have a really helpful website that will help you plan your holiday and provide a lot of useful information.


No.9 Learn to Surf in Newquay, Cornwall

With beautiful Atlantic beaches, cliff top walks and activities ranging from fishing to pony trekking, Newquay makes an ideal holiday location for the young and the not so young.


Whats more - you can easily get to Newquay by coach or train, making it an excellent choice. There are some very nice camp sites in and around Newquay and an endless selection of hotels and B&B's....c'mon, release the "surfer dude" inside !

A week of doing your favourite things ... reading, gardening, a cycle adventure, tennis, swimming, photography, fishing, visiting old friends... Make it a chance to stop and relax.... no schedule, no queueing, no traffic and no stress...paradise !
